This section memorializes men from Andrew County who died while in service to their country. These stones are placed as memorials, and don’t represent actual burials. Some of the men were buried at Savannah Cemetery in other sections; others are buried elsewhere.

Two volunteers, Betty Halvorsen and Nadine Taylor, decorated all of the graves in old Section 1 of Savannah Cemetery for Memorial Day 2006. Many of these graves are over 100 years old, and very few have family left to pay tribute. Notes: Jamestown or “Jimtown” was apparently named for James Crowley, an early settler. The Jamestown Church shows on the 1877 plat map in Section 22, but Jamestown was a settlement as early as 1839. There’s more!] Union Grove Cemetery AKA Antioch Baptist Cemetery Empire Township, Section 17 Andrew County, Missouri Directions: From Savannah, east on E Highway 3.5 miles. North on D about 5 miles. This cemetery is located on the west property line of a private farm and can be accessed only by crossing that property with permission from property owner or by driving on Conservation Department land, which requires a special permit and can only be done in dry weather, as the road is a grass and mud trail with dangerous hills. Notes: The cemetery was apparently cleaned in 2003 by a Scout troop, but has been neglected since then.
