SAVANNAH, Mo. Margaret E. Barnes, 101, of Savannah, died April 14, 2016, at LaVerna Village.
Margaret was born on December 19, 1914, in Amazonia. She attended various grade schools in Andrew County and was a proud graduate of Savannah High School in 1932.
Before her retirement from the ASCS office in Savannah, she worked at Dr. Nichols Sanatorium in Savannah.
She was a lifelong member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Amazonia, where she was Treasurer of the Ladies Guild for many years. She was also a member of the Savannah Business and Professional Women Organization and very active in the Senior Center, RSVP Organization and Andrew County Swiss Society.
On October 13, 1940, she married Ira L. Barnes. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1988.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar A. and Minnie R. (Bechter) Strasser; two brothers, Carl O. and Jacob A. Strasser; two sisters, Helen P. Shreve and Lorene Hainey.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert L. (Janet) and John D. (Brenda) Barnes; five grandchildren, Jennifer Shackelford (Josh), Jill Weaver (Eric), Andrew Barnes (Katie), Sara Hare (Wakefield), and Cameron Barnes (Stephanie). There are nine great-grandchildren: Luke and Lex Shackelford, Tucker and Megan Weaver, Squire and Harper Barnes, Billie, Hanner and Jonnie Hare. She also had many beloved nephews, nieces and friends.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, where the family will receive friends 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday.
Interment: Savannah Cemetery.
