Will of William Gorrell

In the name of God Amen. I William Gorrell Sen'r of the County of Pettis and State of Missouri being blessed and the exercise of those faculties which God was pleased to bestow on me but being feeble and effected in body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and declare this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills and codicils heretofore made by me in manner and from following to wit:

Item 1st I will my soul to God who gave it to me and my body to its mother earth to be decently interred.

Item 2nd I will my that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my money which I may have on hand or by the sales of such property as my wife Nancy Gorrell shall designate.

Item 3rd After payment of my just debts and funeral expenses, I will and bequeath the whole of my estate that shall remain both real and personal and mixed unto my beloved wife Nancy Gorrell to her and her heirs forever to be disposed of as she shall deem fit and expedient.

In testimony whereof I hereunto Set my name and affix my scroll by way of Seal, This 20th day of February 1854.

State of Missouri, County of Pettis. Be it remembered that on this 29th day of June AD 1854 before the undersigned Clerk of the County Court within and for the County of Pettis aforesaid came Amos Fristoe and John F Ferris two of the subscribing witnesses to the within will and acknowledged that they signed the same in the presence of the within named testator and by his request and that he acknowledged and published the same in our presents as his last will and testament and that he the said testator was of sound mind at the time of making such acknowledgement. State of Missouri, County of Pettis. I, R R Spedden Clerk of the County Court of the County of Pettis do hereby certify that within last will of William Gorrell was produced in my office and probate thereof made on the 29th day of June 1854 and that the said will is recorded.
