Shelley Cardiel rescues photographs from flea markets, eBay, you name it. She does what research she can to identify the family and then posts her findings on mailing lists, message boards, and photo sites in an attempt to reunite the pictures with family. What she does is awesome. I contacted her recently to see if she thought including them here might help. I hope it does! Please contact Shelley if you have information about her photos or project.
I’ve “rescued” an old photograph identified as possibly one of Fred & Bertha PARMAN’S (from Chicago) children which was taken at the Shaefer Studio in Paw Paw, MI. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880’s or 1890’s with the baby less than 1 year old at the time. I’m thinking that this is likely one of their sons, either Leroy or Floyd. A note on the back also indicates that the photograph was taken from an album belonging to Fred and Mary GOODING of Salt Lake City. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family:
Bertha Marie GEROLD was b. 6 Aug 1871 in Marcellus, MI to parents Peter GEROLD (1834-1888) and Mary Marie TIMM (1834-1895). Bertha had at least 4 siblings including, Lewis (1860-1887); Peter D. (1863-1916); Gabriel M. (1866-1960); and Jacob T. GEROLD (1868-1869). Bertha married Frederick “Fred” C. PARMAN (1864-1901 – son of C. PARMAN and Mary PLOUGH) on 19 Mar 1889 in Marcellus, MI and she died 31 Dec 1959 in Oak Park, IL and is buried in the Bly Cemetery in Marcellus, MI. Her husband Fred was b. Feb 1864 in Germany and died 21 Sept 1901 in Chicago, IL and is buried along with Bertha in the Bly Cemetery in Marcellus, MI.
Leroy Clermont PARMAN (1890-1973) married Marie LUTZEN and together they had a daughter Shirley PARMAN. His daughter Shirley was living in Denver, CO when her mother Marie died in 1962 in Rogers, AR. Leroy died in Chicago, IL in February 1973. Floyd Christian PARMAN was b. 1892 and d. 8 Jun 1982 and is buried in the Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside, IL. The boys also had two sisters, Hazel M. PARMAN DAHLSTROM (1896-1974) and Evelyn PARMAN POTTER.
