- Francisco Ortega 1958-2001
EMPORIA, Kan. – Francisco "Frank" Ortega, 43, Emporia, formerly of St. Joseph, died Aug. 30, 2001, at a Topeka, Kan., hospital.
Mr. Ortega worked in the department of maintenance and as a bus driver for the Hetlinger Developmental Services, Emporia.
Born on April 26, 1958, in Kansas City, Kan., he coached recreational softball and the Special Olympics basketball team.
On June 26, 1976, in St. Joseph, he married Vickie Dye. She survives of the home.
Mr. Ortega was preceded in death by his mother, Benita.
Additional survivors: a son, Scott, Emporia; two daughters, Dana Valentin, Newton, Kan., and Kristen Ortega, of the home; his father Pedro, St. Joseph; seven brothers Tony J., Emporia, Salvador, Olathe, Kan., Jesse, J., Austin, Texas, Gabriel, Pedro "Pete", Juan "Johnny," and Richard, all of St. Joseph; two sisters, Maria Brown, St. Joseph, and Guadalupe Sosa, Silvis, Ill., and two grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, West. Side Baptist Church, Emporia. Burial: Maplewood Cemetery, Emporia.
Family visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorials: Special Olympics or the Hetlinger Developmental Services in care of the funeral home.
