      Donald C. Helms, 60, Burlington Jct., died Feb. 16 at the home of his mother, Mrs. Hildred Helms, where he was residing.

      He was born June 1, 1918, in Quitman, to Hildred Pulley Helms and the late Dayton B. Helms.

      He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a graduate of Burlington Jct. High School and a member of Burlington Jct. United Methodist Church.

      Additional survivors include a son, Donald T. Helms, Omaha, Nebr.; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Jo Race, Mrs. Karen Richardson, Mrs. Judy Roberts and Miss Roxanne Helms, all of Omaha, Nebr.: a sister, Mrs. Vera Fullerton, Burlington Jct.; and eight grandchildren.

      Services were held Feb. 19 at Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Shipley officiating. Pall bearers included Jerry Davison, Charles Moses, Ercille Blackford, Sam Heriford, Joe Sloan and Wilbur Graham.

      Hildred L. Helms today entered suit for divorce against her husband, Dayton B. Helms, charging desertion. They were married in August, 1916, and lived together until August, 1921, when, according to the petition, the husband left without reason. The plaintiff asks for the custody of the two children, 6 and 7 years old.

      Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Spangler of Burlington Junction today announced that their daughter, Lucille, and Donald Helms, son of Mrs. Hildred Helms, also of Burlington Junction, were married May 1 at Savannah.

      Mr. Helms is a graduate of Burlington Junction high school in the class of 1936 and at present is employed at the Townsend retail grocery in this city. Mrs. Helms attended the Burlington Junction  high school.

      Mr. and Mrs. Helms will make their home in Maryville after the first of next week.

      It's not known if this is an error on the part of the newspaper, but they were actually married the day before this article appeared and in the 1940 census Lucille is living with her parents as divorced.
