      [Will of Andrew J. Martin, executed 16 July 1877 at Sumner County, Kansas.  This will was written by someone else and signed by A. J. Martin in a shaky hand.]

      In the name of God, amen,

      I Andrew J. Martin, being of full age and of sound mind and memory, having a knowledge of the certainty of death and of the uncertainty of life, do hereby make and declare this to be my last will and testament.

      I hereby give, grant and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Perthena L. Martin, and her lawful heirs all the land which I now own, to wit:  the South West quarter of the South West quarter of section No. Nine (9) in Township No. Thirty One (31) South of Range No. One (1) East in Sumner County, Kansas.

      I also give and grant to her my team wagon and harness; Also all the farming utensils of which I am now the owner or any way interested in; Also the cow, which we now have; Also all the hogs & pigs which I now own.  I also give her the crop now growing upon the above described land.

      It is further my wish and will that all my just and honest debts be paid and to better enable my said wife to pay & settle up the same it is my wish & will & I hereby transfer to her all the notes, book accounts, due-bills or any and all claims or demands due me or in my favor, and I herein mention the note signed by Adam Mills for $80 due Dec. 1st 1877.  Also the note signed by Jonathan Lawless calling for $15 due Sept. 1st 1877 or thereabout.

      I also give & grant to her all the house hold and kitchen furniture.

      It is further my wish and will that my body be decently buried and that all my funeral expenses be duly paid.

      I hereby make constitute an appoint my beloved wife Perthena L. Martin Executrix of this my last will and testament.

      In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this 16th day of July A.D. 1877.

    • Martin, of Belle Plaine, died Sunday and his remains interred Monday in the Wellington cemetery, with the honors of the Odd Fellows.  Mr. Martin was a member of this fraternity in good standing and highly esteemed by his large circle of friends and acquaintences [sic].

    • at his late residence in Belle Plaine township, on the 5th inst., of consumption, Andrew Martin, aged about 33 years; Deceased was a member of White Cloud lodge I. O. O. F., White Cloud, Kansas.  The funeral was conducted by the Odd Fellows of this city, and the remains were interred in the cemetery near this place, on Monday.
