Tobias Carl "Tobe" Spangler
Tobias Carl "Tobe" Spangler, Burlington Jct., 91-year-old retired farmer, died at 12:50 a.m., Saturday, following a brief illness, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, where he had lived since August, 1973.
Born June 19, 1884, at Parisburg [sic], Va., the son of the late James and Mary Catherine Johnson Spangler, he had resided in the Burlington Jct. area since a small child. He was a member of the Burlington Jct. Christian Church. On Jan. 12, 1909, he was married at Burlington Jct., to Mable Grace Shipley, who died Aug. 11, 1972.
Surviving are two sons, C. Robert Spangler, Parkville, and Woodrow Spangler, Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Mrs. Roberta Tibbetts, Burlington Jct.; Mrs. George Hamm, Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs. Cecil Hatfield, North Kansas City, and Mrs. John Bowman, Hopkins; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Burlington Jct. Christian Church, with George Spurgin to officiate. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Jct. The body is at the Johnson Funeral Home, Burlington Jct., where the family will meet friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today.
