LOCAL BUSINESS MAN DIES FROM HEART ATTACK
George D. Kennedy, of the Bentonville Bakery, died suddenly at his home on South Main street, Friday, Feb. 9, 1934 at 9:30 p.m. of heart failure. He was stricken about 12:30 that afternoon while at the bakery. He was later carried to his home and a physician called. He had been subject to a weak heart for sometime. He was 49 years of age.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon the Rev. J.L. Dodson conducting the services. Burial was made in the Bentonville cemetery. The pallbearers were, R.C. Puryear, L.A. Allen, Wm. Stubblefield, I.T. Croom, F.M. Yates Wm. Little and J.D. Colwell.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Kilkenny, Ireland in 1885. His parents emigrated to this country when he was five. And located in Rosedale, now a part of Kansas City, Kansas. He married Mrs. Kennedy about ten years ago in Springfield, Mo. After following the bakery business there, he moved to Bolivar, Mo., and came to Bentonville about a year ago. He was associated in Business here with Jack H. Kennedy who will continue the business.
Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, James Kennedy, 17, of a former marriage. HE is a student in the Kansas City high school. Four brothers survive – J.H., his partner, James F. of Centerton, Dr. E.D. Kennedy of Seattle, and M.H. Kennedy of California, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Apple of Oregon and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kennedy's father, Mr. Campbell and her brother, Homer Campbell and her daughter of Battlefield, Mo., also her sister, Mrs. Owens and Mr. Owens of Springfield were down to attend the funeral. Mrs. Odessa Martin, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Mr. George Kennedy of this place were very quietly married at Independence, last Tuesday afternoon.
The bride and groom, accompanied by their little daughter of six years of age, arrived home this morning.
Mrs. Kennedv was a highly esteemed and popular lady of Kansas City where she has made her home for a number of years.
Mr. Kennedy is one of our most prominent business men and is identified with an our interests. In behalf of the community the Argus bids them welcome to our city and wish for then a long and happy life.
