    • IN A CELLAR

Death Resulting From the Accident Soon After

at 7 o'clock last evening a stranger rode up to the residence of Mr. John Balsiger, janitor of the Robidoux school, between Ninth and Tenth streets, and informed him that an accident had befallen his mother at a late hour yesterday afternoon, and whereby death shortly ensued.  The man, who was a neighbor of Samuel Balsiger, husband of Elizabeth, the unfortunate woman, did not take time to further explain affairs, simply saying she fell into a cellar, causing death, when he mounted his horse, crossed the bridge and proceeded to Doniphan county, Kan., to notify other members of the family.  The deceased was well known in this city and county, the family consisting of father, mother and eleven children, the latter residing in Missouri and Kansas.  Mr. John Balsiger at once repaired to the family residence, near Platte river.

    • MRS. BALSIGER'S DEATH

It Is Probable That She Was Attacked by Apoplexy

John Balsiger and family left the city yesterday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Balsiger, who fell into a cellar and killed herself on Thursday afternoon, at her residence east of the city.  Yesterday morning the coroner viewed the body.  From every indication the aged lady was either attacked with apoplexy or made a misstep and fell to the bottom of the stairs.

When found, at about 3 o'clock, the body was cold in death, which must have been instantaneous.  The husband, as was customary, returned from the field to secure an afternoon lunch, and on entering the kitchen found where his wife had made preparations to prepare the meal, and not finding her, instituted a search, finding the body as described.
