Nov. 26 (Special) - A charge of first degree murder was filed today against Cecil May, 25, of Walnut Shade, in connection with the fatal shooting of a Kansas relative early this morning. Authorities said May was not immediately arraigned at his own request and that of his defense attorney. He is accused of slaying his half brother, Lorenzo Andrew "Bud" Pulley. 35, Wichita, Kan., during an argument about 4:30 a.m. May told authorities Pulley, visiting at his home, shoved him out of bed and pushed him around. Coroner Walter Cobb said the two men apparently had been drinking earlier, and that May shot Pulley in the chest with a .22 caliber rifle. Cobb said that following the shooting May and a girl friend of Pulley took the wounded man to the home of a doctor, but he was dead on arrival. | 266 | Deadly Came Fatal to Boy 15-Year Old Plays 'Russian Roullette' FORSYTH, May 8 (Special) - A game of "Russian roulette" with a .22 pistol proved fatal to an [sic] 15-year-old boy here today. Oliver May, son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry May of near Rockaway Beach, died instantly from a chest gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted, about 1:30 p.m. at Ozark Beach, near Powersite Dam on White River. According to Waller Cobb of Forsyth Funeral Home, where the body was taken, young May was playing a deadly game with Rex Johnson, a companion about the same age. In "Russian roulette" a cartridge is placed in an empty pistol chamber and the chamber is spun. Then the player points the weapon at himself and pulls the trigger. Cohb said the victim, who apparently hadn't owned the pistol more than few hours, already had pulled the trigger once without incident before the fatal shot came. The shooting occurred on the beach near the water, he said, and few people were nearby at the time. Taney County Sheriff Theron Gideon and State Trooper Wayne Ferguson investigated. Cobb said he hasn't been notified whether an inquest will be called. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. | May, Oliver Howard (I1688)

| 295 | In Murder Defense: Forsyth Man To Take Stand FORSYTH (Special) - Cecil May, 25, of Forsyth, will take the witness stand Thursday morning in his own defense to a first degree murder charge, and it is believed the case will go to the jury early Thursday afternoon. Douglas Mahnkey, attorney for May, said May's testimony will bear out the contention he acted in self-defense. May is charged in the death of Lorenzo "Bud" Pulley, 37, of Forsyth, his half-brother, last Nov. 26. The state rested its case Wednesday afternoon. Coroner Walter Cobb testified for the state that a shot from a .22 rifle was the cause of Pulley's death. He said the bullet entered Pulley's body at the left breast. Sheriff Theron Gideon testified that May told him Pulley had a shovel at the time of the shooting. Mrs. Nellie Atkins of Yellville, Ark. testified that she entered May's home with Pulley and Paul Goodall of Walnut Shade and the latter's son Jesse. May, she said, was in bed and the incoming party had been drinking and brought beer. She stated further that May asked them to turn out the lights and leave, but that they wanted to stay. So, she said. May himself decided to leave and started for the door with his .22. She said that she and Pulley followed him toward the door and that he yelled "Stand bark or I'll shoot" and that he did then shoot. Jesse Goodall's testimony was similar to that of Mrs. Atkins but Paul Goodall testified that he left when he was asked to do so. The defense opened its case by putting on three witnesses from Yellville. Ark., who testified as to Mrs. Atkins' general reputation for morality. | May, Cecil Ray (I1658)

Pulley was dead upon arrival at the home of Dr. J. M. Threadgill. The sheriff took May into custody at the physician's house. The coroner said Pulley had taken Nellie Atkins, 26, to her former home town of Summit, Ark., for a visit. She works in Wichita, where Pulley was employed by the city transit firm. May lives on the farm of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry May, at Walnut Shade, about six miles north of Forsyth.
