Directions: This old grave is located on the property of J. J. Riley (2006) south of Highway 59, at the corner of 59 and State Route H.

Notes: The site cannot be accessed except when accompanied by the owner, and one cannot walk to the site and must cross a creek. Since there is another stone for Isaac Shunk in Fillmore Cemetery, Section 6, it is possible (but not at all certain) that his remains were moved to Fillmore.

Directions: From Savannah, south on State Route DD 7.2 miles to County Road 378, then west on CR 378 0.5 mile to CR 380, south 0.1 mile. Can be seen from either CR 378 looking south or CR 380, looking east. Need to walk from either road, but walking from CR 380 is shorter by half the distance through the corn field.

Notes: Jamestown or “Jimtown” was apparently named for James Crowley, an early settler. The Jamestown Church shows on the 1877 plat map in Section 22, but Jamestown was a settlement as early as 1839. There were Baptist, Cumberland Presbyterian, and Methodist churches there.

Union Grove Cemetery

Directions: From Savannah, east on E Highway 3.5 miles. North on D about 5 miles. This cemetery is located on the west property line of a private farm and can be accessed only by crossing that property with permission from property owner or by driving on Conservation Department land, which requires a special permit and can only be done in dry weather, as the road is a grass and mud trail with dangerous hills.

Notes: The cemetery was apparently cleaned in 2003 by a Scout troop, but has been neglected since then.

Notes: This cemetery originally was in the church yard of Walnut Grove Methodist Church, which burned in 1936 and was not rebuilt.

White Cemetery

Directions: From Whitesville, go east on State Highway 48, 0.5 mile to County Road 91, then north 2 miles to top of hill. On west side of road there is a driveway into the field at what was once a homestead. Must have landowner’s permission to get to cemetery. Drive up private driveway, around the west and north side of shed, through an open gate, turn east through another gate which must be opened/closed, turn back west through another gate that must be opened/closed and then proceed north and west through a large cattle pasture to the timber line on the north edge of the pond. Crawl under the barbed wire fence. The cemetery is just north and west of the corner of the pasture.

Directions: From Whitesville on State Highway 48 east 1.8 miles to intersection with County Road 202. Cemetery is in a cultivated field with State Hwy 48 on the north and CR 202 on the west.

Notes: If crops are growing, it can’t be seen from the road because all that now exists of it is a small patch that hasn’t been plowed under, with no standing stones. Can be seen better from Highway 48 than from 202.

Cemetery is on the east side of the lane and is surrounded by crop fields. Walk through fields after harvest about 50 feet to cemetery.

Directions: From Savannah, east on E Highway 3.5 miles to D Highway. North on D Highway 10.2 miles to Highway 48. East on Highway 48 for 6.3 miles to State Route P. North on SR P about 3.2 miles to where P makes a sharp turn to the west. Continue west on P for 2 miles until it joins into SR J. Go north on J for about 1.5 miles to driveway of private property. Must have permission to enter this property. Lane goes east through a number of gates which must be opened and closed by the owner. At the east end of the property, the lane turns north. Follow it for about 0.1 mile to the barbed wire fence. Walk north through timber for about 0.1 mile to the cemetery.

Directions: From Savannah, west on State Route T 4 miles to St. John’s Church and cemetery, on west side of road.

Notes: Burial place of many Swiss immigrants, this cemetery was originally connected with the German Reformed denomination, later the Church of Christ.

Translation notes: “Geb.” means “born,” and “Gest.” means “died.” Many of the women’s maiden names are given after “Geb.” “Hier Ruht” is the equivilent of “Here lies” or “Here rests.”

Directions: From Savannah City limits, west on US Business 71/US 69, 4 miles to State Route CC, then south 1.5 mile. Can be seen from the highway.

Notes: Between summer and autumn of 2005, someone had pulled up dozens of footstones, probably to make mowing easier. Unfortunately, footstones help mark actual burials, so a great deal of history was lost during this time. The footstones were piled.

Directions: From Savannah, travel north on Highway 59 to Highway CC. East on CC for 2.1 miles to State Road 421. Southwest on SR 421 for 0.6 miles to house and through property to where the dirt/gravel road splits into a “Y”. Take the right fork, which will probably be fenced across by a electric wire, for 0.2 miles. Cemetery is on the left of the road, up a slight grade. Do not proceed into the next pasture.

Nodaway Baptist Church Cemetery
Nodaway, Lincoln Township, Section 20 South
Andrew County, Missouri

Directions: From Amazonia take State Route T to Nodaway. Cemetery is on the left side of road, to the north of the abandoned church. Walk over the bridge and stay to the south of the chain-link fence. The path goes up a gradual slope, and then up a 10-foot high, very steep hill. From there the path becomes a gradual incline. The cemetery is on the top of the bluff.

Notes: According to a local resident, the bottom of the bluff was, until the 1940s, a rock quarry, which was closed when the blasters began finding bones from the cemetery.
