Velma Louise Holzhauser, 85, St. Joseph, Mo., passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 at a local health care center.
She was born Oct. 17, 1918 in Independence, Kan. and has been a St. Joseph resident since 1936.
Velma was a homemaker, had attended Platt Gard Business College and was a member of King Hill United Methodist Church.
She married Alpha “Al” N. Holzhauser on May 7, 1938 in Lansing, Kan.
She is survived by Al, as well as one daughter, Lois Markley and husband, Dr. Richard E. Markley, Cleveland, Mo., ; two grandchildren, Dr. Jill Louise Dickerson and husband, Dr. Daniel S. Dickerson, Eudora, Kan,; and Brian R. Markley and wife, Patricia E., Overland Park, Kan. and four great-grandchildren, Madeline and Camille Dickerson and Jane and Ella Louise Markley.
Mrs. Holzhauser was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nora (Hamilton) Lear, and one brother, Grover Lear.
Memorial service: 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel. Private inurnment will be held at Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena, Kan. Mrs. Holzhauser has been cremated. The family has requested flowers or memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice.
