Francis was born November 20, 1949 to Francis Sr. and Mary Ann Colburn Dreier in St. Joseph. He graduated from Faucett High School in 1968 and served six years in the Kansas Army National Guard during the Vietnam war. On March 12, 1993, he married his wife of 18 years, Carrie Watkins in St. Joseph. At the age of 19, he began his lifelong career of farming and working in the Faucett, DeKalb, Agency, and Rushville areas. He spent 14 years as a Pioneer Hi-Bred International sales representative and in 1992 he won the Corn Growers Missouri State Yield Contest with 244.99 Bushel/Acre, non-irrigated. He was a member and past treasurer of the Faucett Betterman’s Association and an active member of DeKalb Christian Church, having served as treasurer, a deacon, and member of the choir.
