The County sites are back up. And here I was thinking no one ever uses them since Monica and Justin are the only contributors. But lo and behold, they are out there. Who knew.

The underlying problem hasn't been resolved. So if you find dead links or things that don't work, just use the back button.

SURNAMES: CARTER
Zimri Carter was my great-great-great granduncle. His brother, William, was my great-great-great grandfather. I have a manuscript entitled "The Carters of the Ozarks - Their Life and Times" by Milbourne O. Wilson, a distant cousin whom I don't know. It describes Zimri's migration from South Carolina with his father, Benjamin Franklin Carter, but is fuzzy on their origins prior to that time.
- Do you have any history of the family prior to this? Do you know from what part of the British Isles they came?
Thanks, and very respectfully,
Jason Carter

ELLIS (John Ellis)
I am researching the family of John ELLIS who was living in Jackson Township, Carter County, MO in 1870. John Ellis and family are listed on the 1870 Census for Carter Co, MO, Jackson TWN., Page 475. Listed were: John Ellis, age 34, white, farmer, property value 350, born in OHIO; wife Margaret age 26, keeping house, born in MO; daughter Missouri age 6, born in MO son William age 5, born in MO; son Joshua age 2, born in MO. There were check marks in the columns stating his parents are of foreign birth. *At this time I have no prior MO data, but I know he was born in Ohio abt. 1836 and migrated to Missouri before 1870 as his children are at least 6 years old and were born in Missouri. In 1880, John Ellis and family are found living in Liberty TWN, Madison Co., MO and he states his parents were born in Germany. I have no record of him between 1880 in Iron county until the 1900 Census of Iron County where he was listed as a widower living in Union TWN. His wife Margaret has died sometime between the birth of the last child in 1884 and 1900. I'm seeking data on his migration and connection to other ELLIS family members in southeast MO
